About the Role
Our client is a growing and dynamic hospitality group operating five distinct restaurants across Malta, with a strong focus on Italian cuisine and quality service. They are looking for a friendly and customer-focused Deli Counter Assistant / Salumeria Specialist to join their team in St. Julian's.
This is a full-time, on-site role suited to someone who enjoys working directly with customers and takes pride in presenting high-quality Italian deli products. Whether you already have deli or hospitality experience, or are a strong communicator looking to build a career in food service, this role offers hands-on training and a clear path for growth.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide friendly, attentive customer service and process orders at the deli counter
- Prepare and present Italian deli products, including cold cuts, cheeses, and antipasti
- Slice and portion products accurately to customer specifications
- Assemble deli boards, platters, and sandwiches to a high presentation standard
- Share product knowledge and make recommendations to customers
- Monitor stock levels and communicate replenishment needs to the team
- Maintain counter cleanliness and full compliance with food safety standards
- Operate the point-of-sale system accurately
- Assist with deliveries when required
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across the wider team
Requirements
- Must currently reside in Malta
- Previous experience in a deli counter or hospitality role is preferred
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly, approachable manner
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Flexibility to work shifts including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
- Product slicing and portioning technique
- Point-of-sale (POS) system operation
- Food hygiene and safety compliance
- Stock monitoring and inventory communication
- Knowledge of Italian deli products (cold cuts, cheeses, antipasti) is an advantage
- Food handling or food hygiene certification is an advantage
- Fluent English is required. Italian or other languages are considered a valuable asset given the deli counter's focus on Italian products, but are not mandatory.
