Maintenance Manager — Mellieħa, Malta
About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and hands-on Maintenance Manager to oversee and coordinate maintenance operations within a busy professional environment in Mellieħa, Malta.
You will be responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of building systems and maintenance services, managing in-house teams and external contractors across HVAC, ELV, electrical, plumbing and general maintenance. The role covers maintenance plans and schedules, preventative maintenance, purchase orders, invoices and supplier quotations, and reporting to management and Heads of Departments. The salary is €70,000 per year plus an annual performance bonus.
It suits a senior maintenance professional with at least five years in a similar role, an HTD or equivalent technical qualification and a valid local Licence A and B, who combines strong technical knowledge with leadership and planning skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all maintenance operations, including in-house teams and contracted service providers
- Ensure the smooth delivery of contracted maintenance services, adjusting schedules and priorities as required
- Develop and implement detailed maintenance plans, project timelines and schedules
- Provide clear direction, instructions and guidance to maintenance teams
- Monitor maintenance projects and regularly report progress and any operational impact to management and Heads of Departments
- Authorise purchase orders and invoices for materials and services
- Evaluate supplier quotations and ensure cost-effective purchasing without compromising quality
- Verify the quality of materials, equipment and contracted works
- Ensure the correct functioning and maintenance of building systems, including HVAC, ELV, electrical, plumbing and general maintenance systems
- Ensure all maintenance works follow company standards, health and safety requirements and industry best practice
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules
- Identify maintenance requirements proactively and implement appropriate solutions
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, Heads of Departments and management to ensure efficient maintenance operations
- Ensure maintenance-related costs are effectively monitored and managed
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience in a similar Maintenance Manager or senior maintenance management position
- Higher Technician Diploma (HTD) or equivalent technical qualification
- Valid local Licence A and B
- Comprehensive knowledge of modern HVAC and ELV systems
- Strong understanding of building maintenance practices and preventative maintenance
- Proven experience managing both in-house maintenance teams and external contractors
- Strong leadership, planning, organisational and decision-making skills
- Experience developing maintenance plans, project timelines and preventative maintenance programmes
- Ability to manage and authorise purchase orders, invoices, quotations and maintenance-related costs
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with management, contractors, suppliers and internal departments
- Proactive and hands-on approach with a strong focus on quality, safety and operational excellence
