Procurement Officer — Qormi, Malta
About the Role
Our client is an established company specialising in mechanical and electrical (M&E) projects and building services, delivering installations across commercial, industrial and infrastructure sites in Malta. They are looking for an organised, commercially-minded Procurement Officer to take ownership of purchasing across the business.
Working alongside Project Managers, Engineers and site teams, you will plan procurement around project schedules, source competitively from local and international suppliers, and keep materials flowing to site on time and on budget. It is a hands-on role with real influence over cost, supplier selection and supply-chain resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Procure electrical, mechanical and general materials, equipment and services for ongoing projects
- Work with Project Managers, Engineers and site teams on procurement planning and timelines
- Source and evaluate local and international suppliers
- Obtain quotations, negotiate pricing and secure favourable commercial terms
- Evaluate suppliers on price, quality, specification compliance, availability and delivery times
- Build and maintain supplier relationships while protecting the company's commercial interests
- Coordinate with logistics and freight-forwarding providers for international orders
- Monitor deliveries, follow up proactively and keep site teams informed
- Identify supply issues early and put alternative solutions in place
- Manage Purchase Orders through to delivery and resolve shortages, delays or damaged materials
- Maintain accurate procurement records and supplier documentation
- Develop a supplier database with pricing and performance data
- Monitor and negotiate freight and supplier costs
- Report on procurement costs, savings opportunities and supply-chain risks
Requirements
- Previous procurement or purchasing experience, ideally in mechanical/electrical, construction, engineering or building services
- Technical understanding of electrical and mechanical materials and equipment
- Strong commercial awareness and proven negotiation skills
- Experience with international suppliers and freight forwarding (advantageous)
- Ability to assess suppliers on overall value, not price alone
- Excellent organisational and follow-up skills, able to manage multiple orders and deadlines
- Proactive problem-solver with strong communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using an ERP system
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Candidates must be currently residing in Malta
