Senior Accountant Full Time Contract by Employer Only residing in Malta

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our internal finance team. This role is focused on managing the company’s own accounting operations rather than client accounts. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and able to take ownership of internal financial processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger management, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closing.
• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements in compliance with local accounting standards and regulations.
• Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
• Oversee payroll accounting, expense claims, and employee reimbursements.
• Monitor cash flow, budgets, and forecasting to support management decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations and liaise with external auditors and tax authorities.
• Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting best practices.
• Support the Finance Manager/Controller with ad-hoc reporting and financial analysis.
• Mentor and guide junior accountants within the team.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Masters or professional qualification such as ACCA, ACA, or CPA is a strong advantage).
• Proven experience (5+ years) in accounting, ideally within the finance sector.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, or similar) and MS Excel.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
